This tour offers an immersive multi-day journey from Marrakech into southern Morocco, culminating in the spectacular Merzouga desert region (Erg Chebbi dunes). You’ll traverse mountain passes, kasbahs, valleys and gorges, then arrive at the Sahara where a camel trek and camp stay await. It’s ideal as a 3-4 day (or longer) adventure for travellers seeking a blend of culture, nature and desert experience.
This tour gives travellers a chance to leave the city behind and enter diverse landscapes — from mountain passes and Berber villages, through gorges and valley palm groves, all the way to the vast sandy seas of the Sahara. In the desert region around Merzouga (Erg Chebbi dunes) you’ll ride camels, camp under the stars, listen to desert silence, and witness the surreal colours of dawn and dusk on the sand. It’s a deep-dive into Moroccan nature and culture, beyond the riads of Marrakech.
Your journey begins in Marrakech, where you will leave the city to venture into the Atlas Mountains via the Tichka Pass, which peaks at 2260 meters above sea level. On your way, be sure to visit the famous Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will stop for lunch in Ouarzazate, nicknamed the “Gateway to the Desert”, and will have the opportunity to visit the Cinema Museum, as well as the Kasbah, if time permits. Your journey will continue through the lush oasis of Skoura, the town of Kalaat M’gouna, also known as the “Valley of Roses”, before finally reaching the magnificent Dades Gorges. You will spend the night in a picturesque hotel in the area, where you can enjoy a delicious dinner on a half-board basis.
The second day of your adventure will take you even further, into the heart of the Moroccan desert, to Merzouga. En route, you will discover the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, Tinghir and the impressive Todra Gorges. You will also stop in Erfoud and Rissani, while enjoying the beauty of the Tifilalte Oasis. Your final destination will be Erg Chabi in Merzouga, where you will live an unforgettable experience. You will take a camel ride to admire the sunset over the golden dunes, then you will join a bivouac in the desert. Under a clear and starry sky, you will spend a magical night and enjoy a delicious dinner on site.
On the third day, you will have the chance to admire the sunrise over the dunes of Merzouga before having breakfast. Then, it will be time to start your return journey to Marrakech. On the way back, you will pass through Erfoud and Ouarzazate, where you will stop for lunch. You will continue your journey to Marrakech, where you will arrive around 8 pm to conclude this memorable excursion from Marrakech to Merzouga.
