A small village at the edge of the desert, Merzouga owes its fame to the high dunes of Erg Chebbi which extend along its edge. A mecca for adventure tourism in Morocco, the dunes of Merzouga are a popular destination for travelers looking for complete immersion in the heart of a desert environment that is as impressive as it is breathtaking.
Located in the southeast of Morocco, 50 km from Erfoud, arriving in the village of Merzouga has a nice surprise in store for you. After crossing superb and varied landscapes, you are faced with an unforgettable panorama: the dunes of Erg Chebbi. Depending on the time of your arrival, they will be draped in a yellow or ochre color that will change throughout the day.
As soon as you arrive in Merzouga, you will immediately be immersed in another universe. The Saharouis, the famous blue men with their indigo blue sheikhs, welcome you. Camel drivers and their dromedaries too!
Here you are immersed in the indolent atmosphere of a Saharan village entirely focused on desert tourism.
Your journey begins in Marrakech, where you will leave the city to venture into the Atlas Mountains via the Tichka Pass, which peaks at 2260 meters above sea level. On your way, be sure to visit the famous Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will stop for lunch in Ouarzazate, nicknamed the “Gateway to the Desert”, and will have the opportunity to visit the Cinema Museum, as well as the Kasbah, if time permits.
Your journey will continue through the lush oasis of Skoura, the town of Kalaat M’gouna, also known as the “Valley of Roses”, before finally reaching the magnificent Dades Gorges. You will spend the night in a picturesque hotel in the area, where you can enjoy a delicious dinner on a half-board basis.
The second day of your adventure will take you even further, into the heart of the Moroccan desert, to Merzouga. En route, you will discover the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, Tinghir and the impressive Todra Gorges. You will also stop in Erfoud and Rissani, while enjoying the beauty of the Tifilalte Oasis.
Your final destination will be Erg Chabi in Merzouga, where you will live an unforgettable experience. You will take a camel ride to admire the sunset over the golden dunes, then you will join a bivouac in the desert. Under a clear and starry sky, you will spend a magical night and enjoy a delicious dinner on site.
On the third day, you will have the chance to admire the sunrise over the dunes of Merzouga before having breakfast. Then, it will be time to start your return journey to Marrakech.
On the way back, you will pass through Erfoud and Ouarzazate, where you will stop for lunch. You will continue your journey to Marrakech, where you will arrive around 8 pm to conclude this memorable excursion from Marrakech to Merzouga.
